Description

Originally from India, it belongs to the Lauraceae family, like cinnamon trees. The camphor tree is the emblematic tree of the city of Hiroshima, the first, along with another tree, the Ginkgo biloba. In Madagascar, it is called ravintsara. Camphor is extracted by distillation from its wood, known as “Ho wood”. The essential oil of camphor wood is appreciated as a tonic and stimulant.
